Overview

Salkantay trek Classic to Machu Picchu 5 Days is one of the famous routes and the best alternative route to Machu Picchu, different from the Inca Trail Classic. Salkantay Route takes you through different types of landscapes from the typical Andean landscape down to the tropical jungle.

Itinerary

Day 1
CUSCO-MOLLEPATA-CRUZPATA-SORAYPAMPA.
On the first day, we pick you up from your hotel at 4:30 am to drive for 3 hours until Mollepata town where we will meet with muleteers and horses, and also will have breakfast here. Then we will drive 30 minutes more until arriving at the hiking point Cruzpata. This day not will be so hard because most of the route will be on a flat surface, during the first 3 hours you will observe unique Peruvian Andean landscapes, high snow-capped mountains, streams, and dwarf forests of the sierra, after lunch and resting time we will continue hiking 2 more hours until arriving to our first campsite Soraypampa. (15:00 pm). This day tourists will be able to go to Umantay Lake, a turquoise lagoon, surrounded by an imposing snow-capped mountain that will make you feel you are in a magic place.
Day 2
SORAYPAMPA- ABRA SALKANTAY -CHAULLAY
In the morning your hiking crew will wake you up early with a hot drink, served to you at your tent. This will be the longest and hardest day, we will uphill for 4 hours where we will see amazing mountains; flora, and fauna until arriving at the Salkantay pass (4600 m.a.s.l). Where we will have a guided tour about the Andean worldview currently and at Inca time, we will have lunch and resting time. We will continue hiking 4 more hours downhill, through beautiful streams and high jungle landscapes until arriving at our second campsite Chaullay.
Day 3
CHAULLAY-PLAYA-SANTA TERESA
After a delicious and nutritious breakfast, we will begin hiking. During the first part of the route, we will be able to observe different kinds of plants such as bromeliads, orchids, and ferns of the high jungle until arriving at Ccollpapampa where we will have lunch and resting time, you will have the option to relax going to the thermal baths, you can get into it by 5.00 Peruvian soles. The second part of the route will not be very different with respect to the first, part of the course will be flat, up and down intercalated until arriving Playa Sahuayaku town where will catch a car that will transport us to our last campsite Santa Teresa. In the afternoon people can go to the Cocalmayo`s thermal baths.
Day 4
SANTA TERESA-HIDROELECTRICA-AGUAS CALIENTES
Our cooker will wake you up early with hot coca tea. Tourists are able to do canopy (30.00). The path is really wonderful from crystalline creeks, and dwarf forests of the high jungle until arriving Hydroelectric is named like this because very near it is located the hydroelectric power plant that provides electricity to the Cusco region. After lunch, we will continue 3 more hours hiking next to the train railway with views that are amazing until arriving at Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in accommodation.
Day 5
AGUAS CALIENTES-MACHUPICCHU-CUSCO
This day will be for sure the most fascinating for you because you will see Machupicchu in all its glory from dawn. We get up at 5:00 am and after our breakfast, we will go to the bus station for boarding the first bus that leaves at 5:30 am to be in Machupicchu at 6:00 am. Inside Machupicchu we will have 2 hours guided tour where you will visit the most remarkable places such as: el torreón semicircular, el templo de las tres ventanas, el intihuatana, el templo del cóndor, la sala de los morteros y el baño del inca. Then you will have free time to explore Machupicchu on your own or descend to Aguas Calientes (Lunch is not included). In the afternoon you will board the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, place from where you will be transported by tourist bus to Cusco.
